Exercise and Children

The Exercise and Children course develops specialist knowledge for students designing and supervising structured physical activity programmes for children and youth. Youth training differs from adult training because it must account for growth, development stages, movement skill learning, and safe load management. As schools, sports programmes, and fitness environments place greater focus on youth wellbeing and performance, coaches and trainers need practical guidance on age-appropriate exercise design and safe supervision.

Exercise and Children for Safe, Age-Appropriate Programme Design

Children and youth benefit from structured physical activity that supports movement skill development, strength, coordination, and overall health. However, youth exercise must be designed differently to adult training, taking growth and development into account and ensuring intensity and progression are appropriate. Safe supervision, correct technique, and age-appropriate programming help reduce injury risk and support healthy long-term participation in physical activity and sport.

This course integrates youth exercise principles with foundational exercise science, helping students understand how to plan and supervise physical activity safely for children and youth. Students learn how to design structured and age-appropriate programmes, apply safe supervision and monitoring standards, and adapt sessions based on individual needs, health considerations, and fitness levels. The programme also strengthens practical delivery capability through correct exercise demonstration and technique understanding, supporting safe movement learning in youth training contexts.

This course is delivered by Trifocus Fitness Academy. On successful completion, the certificate is issued by the delivering partner college.
